About Me

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - ACT works to create a different RELATIONSHIP with pain.

Often in the process of trying everything possible to get rid of pain, people can become isolated and disconnected from the people and activities they love.  Overtime, as pain becomes bigger and bigger...lives can become smaller and smaller.

ACT is about living beyond the pain . Although ‘the pain’ that people experience might not be optional, the psychological suffering often is . In ACT, clients learn how to make room for painful thoughts and feelings (awareness and cognitive flexibility), rediscover their values and life direction, and how to move in the direction of creating a rich life with meaning.

My background in the areas of injury rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and achieving excellence in athletics, forms the base of my counselling/ clinical work with clients.  I have been involved with a multi-disciplinary sportmedicine team for over 11 years working in the area of pain, injury, and rehabilitation.  I have consulted with, and treated, many people dealing with all kinds of injuries, including motor vehicle accidents and sport related injuries.

Having experienced a significant injury myself, this experience, in conjunction with psychology, affords me a unique perspective, and understanding, of the underlying pain processes in conjunction with the complex nature of the mind.

Therapy works.  People simply need the tools to shift their perspective into a direction that reconnects them to their lives.  I can help them do this.
